Last August Chrome expanded their Safe Browsing protection by displaying a warning in Chrome when users attempt to download a software that is disguised as a helpful download but will actually make unexpected changes to your computer. Chrome is now providing even more protection against unwanted software by showing a warning when users visit a site that "encourages downloads of unwanted software".  The warning below will appear before users are taken to the suspected site:

Other Safe Browsing features include:
  • Google Search incorporates signals that identify deceptive sites, which reduces the chances users will visit sites where unwanted software downloads are available.
  • Google Ads that lead to sites with unwanted software are now disabled.
Unwanted software has at least one of these characteristics:
  • Affects user's system in unexpected ways
  • Difficult to remove
  • Collects or transmits private information without the users knowledge
  • Bundled with other software without its presence being disclosed
