Google has made enhancements so you can use different headers and footers on the first pages of their Docs. The ability to use different headers and footers can be useful when:
  • Following academic formatting guidelines (e.g. MLA, CMS, APA)
  • Page numbers should begin on the second page of a document
  • Title page should not have headers or footers but following pages should
A new checkbox will display after a header or footer is inserted. Once checked, you have the ability to set a different header and footer on the first page or following pages.

Google has also added the Insert > Page Number menu that allows you to customize how and where the page numbers begin.
