Google at U-M July Updates

posted Aug 4, 2016, 5:27 AM by Amanda Hudeck

The monthly M+Google Digest informs users about what is happening with Google releases for both Core Apps (Google applications that fall under the Google Apps for Education agreement and do NOT require separate terms of service or privacy policy), as well as the Non-Core Apps (those that are not part of the Google Apps for Education agreement). We will continue to communicate important information on Core Apps throughout the month as well. For a list of Core and Non-Core Apps, see the M+Google List of Services page.

Core Apps:

  • Google Drive shared folders will soon be easier to use. Shared content will behave like content that you own. If you are signed into Google Drive, you will be able to access the contents in Drive without having to add to My Drive. The full Drive functionality will be visible when receiving shared folders. This includes:

    • Adding and modifying files

    • Creating new folders

    • Changing your notification subscriptions

    • Modifying files directly from the landing page

Non-Core Apps:

  • Google is introducing a Training for Google Apps Chrome extension. This extension puts a button on your Google app providing quick access to short videos specific to the application you’re currently using.

Note: Keep in mind that even when non-core apps are found in a core app (like Google Drive), they are not covered by the Google Apps for Education agreement.
