Google has recently informed us that starting July 31 Calendar, Docs and Drive must be enabled for those wishing to use Google+.
This change will primarily affect users that do not have Google Calendar because they handle restricted, sensitive data (for example, those affiliated with the Health System). A smaller group of faculty and staff that have not yet migrated will experience a temporary service disruption.
Starting July 31, U-M users without Google Calendar will not be able to create a G+ account. Existing UMICH Google+ accounts without calendar will be frozen and hidden from view -- users will not be able to edit their profiles, create new posts, or participate in Hangouts. Google has assured us that accounts will NOT be deleted so we do not expect any previously entered information, such as “Circles” or posts, to be lost.
We are currently in communication with Google to get more details about what will happen to disabled accounts in the long term. We will post new information about this change as it becomes available.
