posted Aug 12, 2016, 9:34 AM by Amanda Hudeck

On Monday, August 15, Google will release Inbox for Google Apps for Education. This new application provides enhanced features for managing your Inbox and mobile use. Once Google releases Inbox, the Michigan Collaboration Team will evaluate the user experience during the week of August 15 and will make it available for use by August 22, barring any issues. After testing, we will post a follow-up letting you know what to look out for. If you want to see what Inbox is all about, Google has put together a short video to show you what Inbox is and how it works.

Some key features of Inbox by Gmail are:

  • Improved Inbox management:

    • Mail is automatically bundled into categories like Promos, Social, Purchases, Trips, and Low Priority

    • Set a schedule for your bundles to display in your Inbox: immediately, once a day, or once a week

    • Pin important emails so they are easy to find

  • The ability to take messages out of your inbox until a specified time or arrival at a specified place

  • Integrated Calendar reminders that can be tied to email messages

  • You can save links (URLs) to your Inbox

  • Suggested common responses when replying in an email chain.

  • Orders contain up to date tracking information

Inbox by Gmail does not yet have the following standard Gmail services:

  • Advanced search options drop down menu. However, Inbox does support advanced search operators like From: or To: when typed in the search box

  • Ability to create filters
