Apple released an update to its Mavericks OS last evening, November 7. This update fixes the issues experienced when connecting to a Google mail account. Be sure to run a software update prior to connecting Apple's Mail App to your M+Google account.

If you have an Apple computer, we advise against using Apple Mail version 7 to connect to your M+Google mail. The update to Apple Mail version 7 is included in the newest version of OS X, Mavericks.

This version of Apple Mail is known to cause significant issues when connected to Google Mail accounts, including an M+Google account. Issues range from duplicated messages to entire mailboxes being deleted. Messages affected by Apple Mail in your M+Google account cannot be restored or repaired. The risk is greater if you upgraded to Mavericks from a previous operating system version. Until Apple resolves the issue, your email data may be at risk.
