What: Microsoft Communicator to change service endpoints
When: January 11, 2012
Why: In preparation for implementation of Google Talk
Who: All @umich.edu accounts using Microsoft Communicator
Action: No action required from unit IT. Please forward to appropriate unit administration and staff. See below for end user instructions.

*************************

On January 11, 2012 the Microsoft Communicator service will change service endpoints. The new service location will change from umich.edu to meet.umich.edu. This change is in preparation for the campus implementation of Google Talk. The service will continue to be supported by the Business School.

If you use the Communicator tool, you will not need to update any settings -- you will automatically be moved to the new Communicator service address. However, your previous sign-in address of uniqname@umich.edu will no longer be valid. The first time you log in after the change you will need to change your sign-in to uniqname@meet.umich.edu. You will only need to do this once.

Your umich OCS contacts will still be accessible. However, you will need to ask your non-U-M Communicator contacts (for example, name@yahoo.com) to re-add you to their contact list with the address uniqname@meet.umich.edu. Until this is done, your non-Communicator contacts will not be able to see you in their chat client.
Additional documentation re: this change will be available in early January, 2012.
