UPDATED JULY 30: IMPORTANT -- These changes by Google will NOT affect the behavior of current UMICH URLs -- docs.umich.edu will continue to launch Drive in the UMICH domain. Note that drive.umich.edu will currently result in a "page not found" error. The M+Google team is working with the U-M Hostmaster on this issue.

New home screens on the web

Starting July 22, Google will begin rolling out new home screens for Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. This change provides a more consistent interface between the web and mobile version of these apps, making it easier to return to your most relevant and recently edited work no matter what device you’re using. More on the new home screens for Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides.

Changes to legacy Google Drive URLs

Currently, Google provides two urls you can use to reach Drive -- docs.google.com and drive.google.com. In line with the new Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides home screens, Google will start to redirect docs.google.com to point to the new Google Docs home screen. You can still get to Google Drive by going to drive.google.com. Those with docs.google.com bookmarked as a way to access Google Drive should update their links accordingly. The change to docs.google.com is scheduled to roll out to UMICH in 3-4 weeks. Users might see the following message pop up when logging in and getting re-directed to docs.google.com.
