Because of ongoing accessibility concerns regarding the use of Google Apps, U-M will keep the self-migration period open to allow more time for students, retirees and others to transition to M+Google Mail.
Why are you making this change?
We are making this change so that we can better support the use of Outlook and Mac Mail with Google. These software packages (called "clients") improve the accessibility of Google Mail for some users that require adaptive technology.
What is the new deadline?
It has yet to be determined. University IT experts are currently assessing recent updates Google has made to their user interface. We will use that information to create a plan to address accessibility issues and provide support for those with assistive technology needs.
Does this mean I don't have to migrate?
No. The old email system will eventually be retired as originally planned, so all eligible users still need to complete the migration process. Here's how:
- Complete the online form. This moves your existing mail to your new account.
- Then go to email.umich.edu to use your new M+Google account. Incoming mail should start going to your new account immediately.
